Kathryn’s Thoughts on AdventureX “The trip a Kathryn’s Thoughts on AdventureX

“The trip as a whole was just incredible. Setting it up as a mystery adds even more excitement. Greenland is a place which very few people have visited or even live. Every day was something different and unique.

Spending time travelling and forming a connection with not only the environment you’re in but with the group I’ve been a part of is the biggest takeaway for me that I will ponder and think differently about how I approach these type of adventures in the future. I’d hugely value the opportunity to come back because I think this is an environment that’s going to change in the coming years.

Matt and Chris are both incredible individuals, both unique in their own respects. I think they complement each other really well. We’ve spent a lot of time not only out doing some physically challenging things but we’ve also spent time pondering from an intellectual and spiritual perspective and they bring a well rounded and balanced perspective through both of their personalities.

It’s incredible to see some of the individual paths that they’ve been on in their own lives and they’ve been very open and transparent in sharing and I’ve really respected and appreciated that. The other thing that stands out for me is that although they’ve been the organisers of the trip and in some respects, leaders, they’ve never actively taken a leadership role or authority of the group. We’ve really gelled together and they’ve seen themselves as much participants as leaders which is quite unique.

For others interested in doing an adventure like this, I think just dive in. There’s obviously quite a lot of mystery to what you’re signing up to. We’ve talked a lot about operating from the head and the heart and the gut. If your heart and gut are saying yes this is something that I want to step into and challenge myself, I would say just go for it and let the mystery unfold as it does along the way.”

Those that come away with us on AdventureX trips h Those that come away with us on AdventureX trips have generally ticked almost all of the boxes society suggests is the way to live your life and achieve “success”. That doesn’t mean there aren’t still challenges because there are many…

Many of those who attend are thinking about their way to or are in the process of climbing their “second mountain” or in some cases their third or fourth.

If you haven’t read it already “The Second Mountain” is a great book by David Brooks and one that’s well worth reading regardless of where you are on your journey. Here’s a little bit about it…

“Every so often, you meet people who radiate joy—who seem to know why they were put on this earth, who glow with a kind of inner light. Life, for these people, has often followed what we might think of as a two-mountain shape. They get out of school, they start a career, and they begin climbing the mountain they thought they were meant to climb. Their goals on this first mountain are the ones our culture endorses: to be a success, to make your mark, to experience personal happiness. But when they get to the top of that mountain, something happens. They look around and find the view . . . unsatisfying. They realize: This wasn’t my mountain after all. There’s another, bigger mountain out there that is actually my mountain.

And so they embark on a new journey. On the second mountain, life moves from self-centered to other-centered. They want the things that are truly worth wanting, not the things other people tell them to want. They embrace a life of interdependence, not independence. They surrender to a life of commitment.

Brooks explores the four commitments that define a life of meaning and purpose: to a spouse and family, to a vocation, to a philosophy or faith, and to a community. Our personal fulfillment depends on how well we choose and execute these commitments. He looks at a range of people who have lived joyous, committed lives, and who have embraced the necessity and beauty of dependence. He gathers their wisdom on how to choose a partner, how to pick a vocation, how to live out a philosophy, and how we can begin to integrate our commitments into one overriding purpose.“

The people of Bhutan are composed of three main ethnic groups: the Sharchops of the East, the Ngalops of the West and the Lhotshampas in the South. There are a vast number of minority groups as well. Together, they form the indigenous population known as the Drukpas, famed for their rugged strength, ready sense of humour, hospitality and friendliness. #adventurex #people #experiences

From the people, experiences, diversity, elements of surprise, to just being in the moment - it was awesome being in that space. It's not 100% cushy, there's areas where it is uncomfortable but I like leaning into those areas of life. Great leadership and thought has gone into this, a lot of caring and a lot of pushing to your limits which is awesome. It’s jam packed and so if you’re into that type of adventure, this is a good one for that. If you’re open to being a learner and growing and sharing with other people, this is a great place to expand and learn about yourself and help other people develop and what better place to do it than in Bhutan! “Matt and Chris are so different from each other but in such a complimentary way. Matt did such an incredible job curating and planning an amazing trip and paid attention to every single detail and every single contingency and when you do something like this, the reality is you’re most likely halfway across the world doing something that is on the outer bounds of what is in your normal everyday life and you need to be able to have trust and confidence in the person that’s leading it. Matt and Chris really pulled that together. From a group dynamics perspective, Chris just cares so much about everyone in the group and really helped pull this group of strangers and we’re leaving after a week or so as lifelong friends and that’s really a tribute to the two of them.” Mike

“Matt’s willingness to take appropriate risk, experience things and just jump into things is unparalleled. Chris is such a caring and loving person. He worked to understand our personalities and what we were like. He dug in deep in order to make the spiritual and emotional journey what it was.” Brian #adventurex #people #experiences

“As you get to a certain age you don’t get the “As you get to a certain age you don’t get the same opportunity for adventures like this, I had my eye on it for a couple of years and finally decided to pull the trigger. I was looking for something different, something a little more adventurous and to travel in a way that you really can’t get in other places.

The group was really well curated, we immediately hit it off and fell into a really good routine. I also liked the fact you didn’t know what to expect next, it’s so rare in life. We live in a world now where we have our schedules and you know what you’re doing six months, a year out, every week is so well curated and planned for meetings and family and this and that, you know exactly what’s coming next and what you’re doing. To have an experience where you have no idea what you’re doing is a complete surprise and that is so unique.

I learned that we’re all more capable than we think and I just loved the fact we were able to trek across the country feeling like we were the first ones through and just spending time with people in a meaningful way.

I’m very glad I came along and I can’t believe it’s over. I’d love to do it again. It’s one of those things where it’s hard to take time away from work and hard to take time away from family but looking back it was time well spent, really meaningful and something I will always remember and always look back at in a really fond way.

If you get accepted, you’d be foolish not to come along and if in your gut, you feel this is really something you’d like to do, do it. We have one life to live and it’s experiences like this that make it worthwhile. I’ve loved it and I hope other people can experience it in the same way.”

I was initially apprehensive but I immediately got to meet the people from the group and realised they were a lot like me. I expected to have a really interesting experience but I didn’t expect to be around a group of people that was open and talking about stuff going on in their lives and have the ability to connect with people deeply.

Bhutan is such an amazing country and this is really the only way to really see it and get to experience it. One of the great things about this trip is to really push yourself and do some stuff that was a little scary or intimidating at first, knowing that they have the experience to get you out of any situation and deal with anything that came up was incredibly comforting. I’m really glad that I came along and quite honestly, given some stuff that was going on at work, I was starting to wonder right before the trip if I should come and if it was unreasonable to step away from the business and come and do this but I’m incredibly glad that I did and you know, it was all fine. Steve’s Thoughts on AdventureX “By far the bi Steve’s Thoughts on AdventureX

“By far the biggest theme of this trip is to live in the moment and to focus on the present. And to be in a place like Bhutan where it’s engrained in the culture and the religion and the people, it really hammers home the point and I think we have near zero ability to do that. It’s something we really focussed on, that’s what I’m going to take home.

All the time we had both alone and the quiet moments which you get, is very precious. I think I shared with the group where I had a really good, connected, spiritual moment and I don’t think I’ll ever forget that. We had the ability to be present, to think about life a little bit and I think that’s one of the most beautiful moments I had on this trip.
